Deputy Minister Wafiullah Kakar talked with UN-OCHA on IDPs in Helmand
Deputy Minister Wafiullah Kakar talked virtually with Ion Ridley head of UN-OCHA in Afghanistan on the IDP issue in Helmand on 19 October 2020. Deputy Minister Kakar said that about thousands of families are in dire need of humanitarian aid.
UN-OCHA informed that at the moment, the assessment of indigently displaced families in Lashkargah is under process. Deputy Minister Kakar asked the UN-OCHA to increase the number of assessment teams and speed-up the assistance process. The implementation agencies’ and NGOs’ work must be closely coordinated with the MoRR and its Directorate of Refugees and Returnees in Helmand.
Deputy Minister Kakar announced that a MoRR delegation will travel to Helmand in the coming days to talk with the local authorities, visit the areas where the displaced people are resided, and get first-hand information. The MoRR wants to ensure that the distribution of assistance such as shelter, drinking water, food and no-food items is adequately organized.
