Deputy Minister Kakar meets with IOM Country Director in Ankara
Wafiullah Kakar, Deputy Minister for Refugee Affairs, who visited the Republic of Turkey as the head of a governmental delegation, talked with leaders of international organizations and Turkish officials. He also met with the Country Director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Ankara and discussed affairs related to Afghan migration.
The two sides exchanged views about the situation of Afghan migrants, the provision of humanitarian services, monitoring the return process, and strengthening the oversight role of the IOM, as well as its advocacy to migrants, and stressed the need for closer and furher cooperation between governments and institutions supporting migrants.
The IOM country director in Turkey appreciated the visit of the Afghan governmental delegation to review the state of affairs of migrants and explained the activities and programs of his organizations.
HE Kakar announced the upcoming conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding between Afghanistan and Turkey on regulation and management of the migration issue. The Afghan migration issue shall be managed jointly with governments, international institutions, and migrant’s advocacy organizations that defend human and other fundamental rights. He asked the IOM to pay more attention to Afghan migrants' access to ensure their fundamental rights in Turkey as a transit country.
At the request of the Afghan diaspora living in the Republic of Turkey, he called on the IOM to cooperate with the families of refugees and migrants in transferring the dead corpora of victims from Turkey to Afghanistan.
